Burmese to English
Burmese to English translation
For families and students from Myanmar who need a registration card, household list or certificate in English. Check the free government service first; where it does not reach, we translate in full, by email, with NAATI certification as an option.
What a Burmese document needs
Three things a Burmese document brings with it
Burmese names, numbers and family records follow their own conventions, and a careless translation breaks them.
No surname, and a title in front
Burmese names have no family name, and a title often sits in front: U or Daw for an older man or woman, Maung, Ko or Ma for younger people. The translation shows a title as a title and follows your passport for the name itself, so no one takes U or Daw for a first name.
The registration card number
A National Registration Card number mixes digits with Burmese letters for the township. The translation transliterates those letters one consistent way, keeps the original number beside it, and writes Burmese numerals as Western digits, so the number can be matched on every document.
The household list
The household list records everyone living at an address and how each person is related to the head of the household. Every row is translated, including the names, dates of birth and registration numbers, so a reader can see who is who in the family.
Before you pay anyone
The free service, and the visa rule
The Free Translating Service
“Permanent residents and eligible visa holders can get up to 10 personal documents translated into English for free.” The conditions include: “You need to be onshore (in Australia) to access the service.” If you arrived on a humanitarian visa recently, check it first.

For a visa file
“All documents not in English must be translated into English. Translators in Australia must be accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters.” The free service does not take visa translations, so for a visa file choose the NAATI certification option.

What a careful job includes
Every row, every seal
Cards and certificates
National registration cards on both sides, birth and marriage certificates, and death records, with every seal, signature and registration number carried across.
Names that match your passport
Burmese names can be romanised several ways. We use your passport’s spelling for your own name and your other documents for everyone else’s, so the file reads as one family.
School and university records
Matriculation results, degree certificates and transcripts, translated in full. Text that cannot be read in the photo is marked in square brackets rather than guessed.
Choose the NAATI certification option for a translation prepared by a NAATI-certified translator, carrying their certification statement, NAATI stamp and credential number. See the birth certificate and marriage certificate pages for those documents.
