Check before you order

Most Philippine records are already in English

This page may save you the cost of a translation. Here is how to tell whether you need one.

Usually in English already

Philippine birth, marriage and death certificates and the LTO driver’s licence are usually printed in English. If everything on yours is in English, the reader may need nothing more: see documents already in English, and when we will tell you not to order.

Where Filipino appears

Filipino, or another Philippine language, turns up in affidavits, some barangay and local certificates, church records, letters and handwritten remarks added to an English form. Those are the pages that need translating. Send the whole page, so the reader can match the English version line by line.

Middle names and suffixes

A Filipino middle name is usually the mother’s maiden surname, not a second given name, and suffixes such as Jr. or III belong to the name. The translation keeps each part where the document puts it and follows your passport’s spelling, so no one mistakes your middle name for a given name.

Driving here on a Philippine licence

An English licence needs no translation

What New South Wales says

“If your licence is not written in English, you must also carry an English translation, or an International Driving Permit.” An LTO licence printed in English is not caught by that line, and most states word it the same way. Western Australia’s visitor page is less clear; the guide below quotes it.

At the Hertz desk

Hertz’s terms accept a licence that “is in English or, if not in English, is accompanied by a certified English translation”. An English licence is accepted on its own terms. Check the card’s expiry and your company’s other conditions before you book.

What a careful job includes

When a translation is needed, all of it

Mixed-language pages

On a page that is part English and part Filipino, the Filipino is translated and the English is carried across as printed, in the page’s own order, so the reader sees one complete English version.

Affidavits and local certificates

Affidavits, barangay certificates and letters are translated with every signature, seal, notarial detail and date, so the reader can see who signed, before whom and when.

Other Philippine languages

A document in Cebuano, Ilocano or another Philippine language? Choose “Other language” on the order page or ask us first, and we will confirm before you pay.

Choose the NAATI certification option for a translation prepared by a NAATI-certified translator, carrying their certification statement, NAATI stamp and credential number. See the birth certificate and marriage certificate pages for those documents.

Pricing
