Indonesian to English
Indonesian to English translation
For visitors driving on an Indonesian SIM, and for students, workers and families who need a KTP, Kartu Keluarga or akta kelahiran in English. Translated in full, delivered by email, with NAATI certification as an option.
What an Indonesian document needs
Three things an Indonesian document brings with it
Indonesian is written in the Latin alphabet, so a document can look easy to read. The meaning sits in the classes, the abbreviations and the names.
SIM classes, spelt out
An Indonesian SIM names its class by letter. Korlantas Polri sets SIM A for vehicles up to 3,500 kilograms used privately, and SIM C, C I and C II for motorcycles by engine size. A hire desk reading only “A” learns nothing, so the translation says in words what each class allows.

One name, or several
Many Indonesians have a single name and no family name at all. The translation does not invent a surname: it carries your name exactly as your passport shows it, so the SIM, the akta and the passport match one another. Where a record adds bin or binti and a father’s name, that stays as printed too, and is not folded into a surname.
KTP and Kartu Keluarga
The KTP (identity card) and the Kartu Keluarga (family card) both carry each person’s 16-digit NIK. The family card lists the whole household on one sheet, with each person’s relationship to the head of the family, religion, occupation and both parents’ names. Every row is translated, so a reader can see who is who.

What the ACT says
Access Canberra accepts “an overseas licence not in English, with an official English translation” from an embassy or consulate, the Department of Home Affairs, or a NAATI-certified translator, and says a visiting driver should have an International Driving Permit.

At the Europcar desk
Europcar’s rental terms accept either an International Driving Permit issued in the same country as the licence, or an English translation issued by NAATI that fully explains any licence conditions and the vehicle category. That is why the translation spells out your SIM class.

Riding a scooter or delivering food? Uber, DiDi and Uber Eats on an overseas licence sets out what each platform asks for. Every state’s rule is on driver licence translation.
What a careful job includes
Every row, every stamp, both sides
The whole SIM
Both sides of the card: name, place and date of birth, address, occupation, the SIM number and class, issue and expiry dates, the issuing police unit, and every stamp or code, in full.
Numbers copied exactly
The NIK, the family card number and the SIM number are copied digit for digit, so they can be matched against your other records without a second look.
Civil and academic records
The akta kelahiran, the buku nikah or marriage certificate, divorce and death records, police certificates (SKCK), ijazah and transkrip. Seals, stamps and signatures are marked where they appear; unreadable text is marked in square brackets.
Choose the NAATI certification option for a translation prepared by a NAATI-certified translator, carrying their certification statement, NAATI stamp and credential number. See the birth certificate and marriage certificate pages for those documents.
