Bengali to English
Bengali to English translation
For partners, students and families who need a Bengali marriage record, certificate or court paper in English, whether it comes from Bangladesh or from West Bengal. Translated in full, delivered by email, with NAATI certification as an option.
What a Bengali document needs
Three things a Bengali document brings with it
Some Bangladeshi records already carry English; the handwritten ones rarely do. Knowing which you hold saves money.
The kabinnama
A Muslim marriage in Bangladesh is registered by a Nikah Registrar, licensed by the government under the 1974 Registration Act, on the kabinnama form. It records the couple, their guardians, the witnesses and the dower (den mohor), mostly by hand. Every column is translated, handwriting and the registrar’s seal included.

Birth records in two scripts
Bangladesh’s online birth registration takes names and places in both Bangla and English, so a newer certificate may already give you the English you need. Check yours, and see documents already in English, before you pay for a translation.

Bengali digits and names
Bengali numerals are written as Western digits, so a registration number or a date reads the same in both versions. Names are romanised to match your passport, whichever way the certificate itself spells them. Two of your papers spell a name differently? See which spelling goes on the translation. A form from West Bengal with English headings needs only its Bengali entries translated, and we translate the page as a whole.
For a visa file
Where a translation can come from
Made in Bangladesh or India
The partner visa checklist says translators outside Australia “do not have to be accredited”, but each translation must include their “full name; address and telephone number; qualifications and experience in the language they are translating”, and “These details must be in English.” A home translation without those details will not meet it.

Not the free service, for a visa
The government’s Free Translating Service says “Document translations required for visa or citizenship applications, and documents issued by private citizens, are not eligible.” For a visa file translated here, the NAATI certification option is the one that matches Home Affairs’ wording.

Assembling a partner visa? Partner visa documents that need translation goes through the checklist, and marriage certificate translation covers the certificate itself.
