NAATI translation on the Gold Coast
Order from anywhere on the Gold Coast, from home or a holiday apartment: photograph your document, order online, and the translation arrives by email as a PDF. NAATI certification is an option, prepared by a NAATI-certified translator, for the police, a hire desk and the offices that name one. If you would rather meet in person, the Gold Coast is one of the three areas where we visit.

What Queensland offices say
Quoted rather than paraphrased, so you can see the wording your translation will be read against. Each source shows the page’s own last-updated date where it has one, and when we checked it.
Visiting the Gold Coast: what police ask you to carry
“If you’re visiting Queensland, you can drive if you have a valid interstate or overseas licence.” And: “If your licence isn’t in English, you should carry a recognised English translation of it when you’re driving. Show this translation to police when you have to show your driver licence.”
The page does not mention International Driving Permits at all, and it does not say whether a screen alone is enough, so carry the translation with your licence whenever you drive, on your phone and on paper.
Moving to the Gold Coast: the 3-month line and TMR
Moving to the Gold Coast changes the rule. The same Queensland page says you cannot keep driving on an overseas licence once you “are an Australian citizen and you’ve been living in Queensland for 3 months”, or if you “were given a resident visa before you moved to Queensland and you’ve been living in Queensland for 3 months”.
For the transfer, Transport and Main Roads asks you to “bring a recognised English translation (if the licence is not in English) from an approved National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) translator”. Of the three sources TMR names for a transfer translation, we provide only the NAATI one, through a NAATI-certified translator; the other two are listed on overseas licence transfer in Queensland.

Transferring a licence: originals, a printout and the translator’s address
TMR’s transfer page says “All documents must be originals—photocopies and certified copies are not acceptable.” Whether that sentence reaches the translation, or only your identity documents, is not spelled out anywhere on qld.gov.au, and the words digital, PDF and printed never appear in relation to translations.
So TMR publishes no rule on whether a translation must be a hard copy from the translator. We deliver a PDF: print it and take it with your original licence. Queensland’s driver licensing regulation says a certified translation carries a certification that it is correct, with “the person’s full name and address” and their qualifications. Our translations leave the translator’s address off unless you ask, so for a transfer, choose the NAATI option and message us your order number; we ask the translator to put their name and address on the certification. If you are a visitor carrying a translation for police, this does not arise.

Picking up a hire car on the Gold Coast
Hertz’s rental terms require a licence that “is in English or, if not in English, is accompanied by a certified English translation”, and do not define certified; Thrifty’s terms read much the same.
Flying in for a holiday and collecting the car when you land? Order before you leave home so the PDF is already on your phone at the desk; the other big hire companies’ wording is on renting a car in Australia on an overseas licence.

Not a licence? If you are marrying in Queensland, its guidance on documents in other languages names two things to provide: “a certified copy of the original document” and “a translation by a translator certified by the National Accreditation Authority”. The certified copy is something you arrange locally; the translation is the part we do. See marrying in Australia with foreign documents and marriage certificate translation.

Queensland’s visitor page points to NAATI and nowhere else: “The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) has a list of approved translators.” NAATI replaced accreditation with certification in 2018 (NAATI accredited or certified?), and our NAATI option is prepared by a NAATI-certified translator. For driving, hiring a car or a licence transfer in Queensland, choose the NAATI option; for a transfer, message us your order number and we ask the translator to put their name and address on the certification. Ordering from the Gold Coast
Order from a holiday apartment, or book a visit
There is no shopfront on the Gold Coast or anywhere else; the order happens on your phone or laptop. The Gold Coast is one of three areas, with Brisbane and Logan, where you can book a visit instead: we photograph your documents with you and place the order on the spot.
From anywhere on the Gold Coast
Photograph every page, front and back, and order your translation from home, work or a holiday apartment. The full price is on screen before you pay, in Australian dollars, and we add nothing at checkout. Up to 4 pages online; a longer document is priced by email first.
Three delivery windows
Normal delivery is within 3 days and is included. Urgent is 12–24 hours, and ASAP arrives within 4 hours where a translator for your language is available at that moment. All three are estimates. We do not deliver on Sundays: a delivery that would fall on a Sunday arrives on the Monday. Each surcharge is shown on the order page.
Translation prices start from $19.99 AUD per page; the full price, including the NAATI option and the delivery speed, is shown on the order page before you pay.
A visit, if you would rather meet
We come to you, photograph your documents with you, hand them straight back, and place the order together on the spot, with the translation paid at the normal on-screen price. A visit fee applies on top of that; we tell you the amount when we confirm the time, and it is payable by card. Book by email or SMS with your suburb and two times that suit you; we take bookings 24/7, and how to book a visit has the details. Cancel at least two hours before and the fee is refunded in full.
If an office wants paper
Nothing is printed or posted. The PDF prints on any printer, and on the NAATI option the translator’s digital stamp carries a QR code that can be scanned from paper. Where a printed copy is enough, and where it is not, is in PDF or hard copy?
Gold Coast time is Brisbane time. You can call, text, WhatsApp, email or order 24/7. The estimated dates on the order page and the Sunday rule run on Queensland’s clock, and Queensland has no daylight saving, so on the Gold Coast they match your own clock all year. Over the border it is different. Tweed Heads is in New South Wales, which has daylight saving, so from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April it is one hour ahead of the Gold Coast: midnight on the Gold Coast is 1am there.

NAATI translations don’t expire
NAATI’s own FAQ says it in three words: “Translations don’t expire.” Translate once, keep the PDF and use it again while your document stays the same.
This applies to our NAATI option, available on the order page. A renewed or reissued document needs a new translation, and each office sets its own requirements; tell us who it is for and we’ll check what they ask for. Do NAATI translations expire?
Common questions
Questions about ordering from the Gold Coast
No. We are a Brisbane-based online service in Queensland with no shopfront on the Gold Coast, and you do not need one: photograph the document, order online, and the translation arrives by email as a PDF. If you would rather meet in person, the Gold Coast is one of three areas, with Brisbane and Logan, where you can book a visit: we come to you, photograph your documents with you, hand them straight back, and place the order together on the spot. If the office you are dealing with wants a printed copy, print the PDF; on the NAATI option, the translator’s stamp and QR code print with it.
You choose one of three speeds when you order, and each has an estimated delivery time rather than a fixed one. Normal is within 3 days, Urgent 12–24 hours, and ASAP within 4 hours where a translator for your language is available. We do not deliver on Sundays: a delivery that would fall on a Sunday arrives on the Monday. Urgent and ASAP are priced on the order page. The order page shows the estimated dates against each one before you commit, worked out on Brisbane time, which is the Gold Coast’s own time all year round. Our guide explains how long a translation takes.
Queensland’s pages point to NAATI and name no other source for visitors, so for the police, a hire desk and any Gold Coast office that names NAATI, choose the NAATI certification option, prepared by a NAATI-certified translator. For a licence transfer TMR names a NAATI translator too, so choose the NAATI option. TMR publishes no rule on printed or digital translations: print our PDF and take it with your original licence, and message us your order number so we ask the translator to put their name and address on the certification. Standard is a translation with no statement or stamp, for when nobody has asked for certification. Not sure which fits? Message us before you order.
Yes. The order runs online, so it works the same on either side of the border: photograph the document, order from your phone, and the PDF arrives by email. Two things change in New South Wales. The clock: from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, Tweed Heads is one hour ahead of the Gold Coast. And a licence transfer: for a NSW licence, Transport for NSW names four sources and we are not one of them, so we do not sell translations for a NSW licence transfer (who Transport for NSW names). Driving in NSW as a visitor is a different transaction under a different rule, and one we do serve: driving in NSW on an overseas licence.
