NAATI translation in Hobart
Order from anywhere in Hobart, with no trip into town: photograph your document, order online, and the translation arrives by email as a PDF. The same goes for the rest of Tasmania. NAATI certification is an option, prepared by a NAATI-certified translator, and it is the one we point you to for driving in Tasmania.

What Tasmanian offices say
Quoted rather than paraphrased, so you can see the wording your translation will be read against. Each source shows the date the page itself gives, where it gives one, and when we checked it.
Driving in Tasmania as a visitor
“You can drive/ride in Tasmania using your overseas licence if you are a visitor or have a temporary visa”, and “If your licence is not in English you must also carry an official translation or international drivers permit.” Note the word “also”: the translation or permit travels with your licence and does not replace it. Among the states we quote, Tasmania is the only one whose wording names temporary visa holders; see translations for a working holiday visa.
Who may translate it
For visitors, Tasmania names no translating body, but the same page says who may prepare the translation: it asks for “an English translation of your licence by a person accredited to translate”. In Australia that credential is NAATI certification, so for Tasmania we point you to the NAATI certification option, prepared by a NAATI-certified translator whose digital stamp carries a scannable QR code.
Moving to Tasmania
Settling here brings a different time limit. The same page puts no number on a visit, but its conversion route to a Tasmanian licence applies where “your permanent visa has not been issued for longer than six months”, and it explains how to apply for an extension to that six-month period. To convert, Service Tasmania asks you to “provide your overseas licence (and international driving permit, or English translation by a NAATI certified translator, if necessary)”. We can help with that: choose the NAATI option, and bring your original licence and a printout of the translation.

Driving without a translation or permit
Tasmania writes the translation into its law. A visitor is exempt from holding a local licence only while the licence is in English or is carried with an official translation or a permit, so without one the charge is driving unlicensed, which has no published on-the-spot fine and goes to court. Not carrying and producing the documents is a separate offence. The amounts are in driving without a licence translation: the fine in each state.

Not a licence? A document going overseas sometimes needs a notary public, and a JP cannot stand in. The Supreme Court of Tasmania puts it this way: “While Justices of the Peace can witness documents and administer oaths in Australia, notaries public have the exclusive right to do the same for international documents for use outside Australia.” We do not notarise, and it is not a step we arrange. The order of steps is in apostille, notary or translator first?

For visitors, Tasmania’s page says accredited and does not name NAATI. In Australia the translator’s credential is NAATI certification, which replaced NAATI accreditation in 2018 (NAATI accredited or certified?), and our NAATI option is prepared by a NAATI-certified translator. For driving or hiring a car in Tasmania, choose the NAATI option. The full rules are on driving in Tasmania on an overseas licence, and the hire companies’ own licence terms on renting a car in Australia on an overseas licence. Still at home? Ordering from Hobart
No trip into town, and no counter to queue at
From anywhere in Tasmania
Photograph every page, front and back, and place your order online from home, work or a hotel room. The full price is on screen before you pay, in Australian dollars, and we add nothing at checkout. Up to 4 pages online; a longer document is priced by email first.
Three delivery windows
Normal delivery is within 3 days and is included. Urgent is 12–24 hours, and ASAP arrives within 4 hours where a translator for your language is available at that moment. All three are estimates. We do not deliver on Sundays: a delivery that would fall on a Sunday arrives on the Monday. Each surcharge is shown on the order page.
Translation prices start from $19.99 AUD per page; the full price, including the NAATI option and the delivery speed, is shown on the order page before you pay.
If an office wants paper
Nothing is printed or posted. The PDF prints on any printer, and on the NAATI option the translator’s digital stamp carries a QR code that can be scanned from paper. Where a printed copy is enough, and where it is not, is in PDF or hard copy?
Hobart time and Brisbane time. You can call, text, WhatsApp, email or order 24/7. Only the estimated dates on the order page and the Sunday rule run on Brisbane time, and Queensland has no daylight saving. Tasmania does. From the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, Hobart is one hour ahead of Brisbane, so midnight in Brisbane is 1am in Hobart. The rest of the year the two cities share the same time.

NAATI translations don’t expire
NAATI’s own FAQ says it in three words: “Translations don’t expire.” Translate once, keep the PDF and use it again while your document stays the same.
This applies to our NAATI option, available on the order page. A renewed or reissued document needs a new translation, and each office sets its own requirements; tell us who it is for and we’ll check what they ask for. Do NAATI translations expire?
Common questions
Questions about ordering from Hobart
No. We are a Brisbane-based online service in Queensland with no shopfront in Hobart, and you do not need one: photograph the document, order online, and the translation arrives by email as a PDF. The visits we offer cover Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Logan only, so in Tasmania the order is online. If the office you are dealing with wants a printed copy, print the PDF; on the NAATI option, the translator’s stamp and QR code print with it.
You choose one of three speeds when you order, and each delivery time is an estimate. Normal is within 3 days, Urgent 12–24 hours, and ASAP within 4 hours where a translator for your language is available. We do not deliver on Sundays: a delivery that would fall on a Sunday arrives on the Monday. Urgent and ASAP are priced on the order page. The order page shows the estimated dates against each one before you commit, worked out on Brisbane time; from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, Hobart is one hour ahead of Brisbane. What decides how long a translation takes is in our guide.
Transport Services Tasmania asks for “an official translation or international drivers permit”, and the same page asks for “an English translation of your licence by a person accredited to translate”. It does not name NAATI; in Australia that credential is NAATI certification, so choose the NAATI certification option, prepared by a NAATI-certified translator. It is also the one to choose for hiring a car. Standard is a translation with no statement or stamp, for when nobody has asked for certification.
A permit is issued in your home country before you leave. If you are already in Australia, you cannot obtain one here for a foreign licence, and a translation is the alternative Tasmania itself names. Order the translation online, then carry it with your original licence every time you drive.
Yes. The order runs online, so it works the same anywhere in Tasmania, in the city or the regions: photograph the document, order from your phone, and the PDF arrives by email. Wherever in Tasmania you drive, carry the translation with your original licence, never instead of it.
