What Western Australian offices say

Quoted rather than paraphrased, so you can see the wording your translation will be read against. We checked each line on 21 October 2026 against the pages of WA’s Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure and its Road Safety Commission.

Driving in WA as a visitor

The Road Safety Commission’s page for visitors says: “You must carry your current overseas licence and a translation, or an International Drivers’ Permit (IDP) with you while driving.” The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure adds: “If you are visiting Western Australia from overseas or another Australian state or territory, you can use your current driver’s licence.” and “If you are a visitor to WA, such as a tourist or someone studying or working temporarily in WA, you do not need to transfer your overseas licence to a WA driver's licence.” WA names no translating body for a visit. For a licence transfer it lists NAATI-certified translators, so for driving in WA choose the NAATI option.

Hiring a car in Perth

WA publishes no separate licence rule for hiring a car: the Road Safety Commission’s link for renters now leads to the Department’s visitor page, which has none. On the road, the line above applies. Each hire company also sets its own terms; theirs are quoted on renting a car in Australia on an overseas licence. For a hire car, choose the NAATI option, and have it before you reach the desk: what to bring to the airport hire desk.

Moving to WA and converting your licence

For a licence from a non-recognised country, WA says: “Any overseas driver’s licence document from a non-recognised country or region that is written solely in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English translation from an approved translator.” Its translator list includes “National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) certified translators”. Choose the NAATI option.

For a licence from a recognised country, bring what WA lists: “a translation of your non-English driver’s licence and original copy of licence provided to translator (if required)”. With us, that means a printout of the translation PDF, your original licence, and a copy of the licence image you sent us. Moving here for good? WA says: “If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident and have a current and valid overseas driver’s licence, you can drive in Western Australia for up to 3 months using your overseas licence.”

A divorce filed in Perth

The federal court’s divorce page says: “If you are located in Western Australia you should contact the Family Court of Western Australia where divorces in Western Australia are only filed.” That court’s page on translations says the document and its translation are attached to an affidavit “sworn or affirmed by the translator before an authorised witness.” Its affidavit form for a marriage certificate is worded differently from the federal one.

An online order from us delivers the translation as a PDF; it is not an affidavit, and nobody swears or affirms it before a witness. Before you order for a WA divorce, contact us with the language of your certificate: we can arrange the translator’s affidavit on request, and we confirm it for your language before you pay anything. The detail: the translator’s affidavit for a divorce.

Delivering food by car? Uber Eats says: “You can use overseas licences for car deliveries in NSW, VIC, QLD, ACT, SA, and WA.” That is for people on a temporary visa with a licence from a country on its list. Uber’s help page lists the places that need a full Australian licence for cars: “Full Australian driver’s licence: Required for motorbikes, and for cars in NSW, ACT, and NT.” WA is not one of them. If the app asks for a translation of your licence, that is a translation we do. See Uber, DiDi or Uber Eats on an overseas licence.

Driving for Uber rideshare is different. WA says: “If you currently drive, or plan to drive, a vehicle for hire or reward, you must hold a valid PTD authorisation.” To apply, you must “hold a current and valid WA drivers licence”, so an overseas licence is not enough.

Getting married in WA with documents from overseas? Every celebrant in Australia follows the same national guidelines, which say a celebrant “should ask the couple to seek an official NAATI certified translation of the document”, so choose the NAATI certification option; see marrying in Australia with foreign documents. Documents for a visa, citizenship or passport application are ordered online from Perth as from anywhere else. Every state’s licence rules are on driver licence translation into English, and the permit question on International Driving Permit or translation?

Ordering from Perth

No trip into the city, and no counter to queue at

From anywhere in Western Australia

Photograph every page, front and back, and start your order from home, work or a hotel room. The full price is on screen before you pay, in Australian dollars, and we add nothing at checkout. Up to 4 pages online; a longer document is priced by email first.

Three delivery windows

Normal delivery is within 3 days and is included. Urgent is 12–24 hours, and ASAP arrives within 4 hours where a translator for your language is available at that moment. All three are estimates. We do not deliver on Sundays: a delivery that would fall on a Sunday arrives on the Monday. Each surcharge is shown on the order page.

Translation prices start from $19.99 AUD per page; the full price, including the NAATI option and the delivery speed, is shown on the order page before you pay.

If an office wants paper

Nothing is printed or posted. The PDF prints on any printer, and on the NAATI option the translator’s digital stamp carries a QR code that can be scanned from paper. Where a printed copy is enough, and where it is not, is in PDF or hard copy?

Perth time and Brisbane time. You can call, text, WhatsApp, email or order 24/7. Only the estimated dates on the order page and the Sunday rule run on Brisbane time. Neither Queensland nor Western Australia has daylight saving, so the gap never changes: Perth is two hours behind Brisbane all year. A delivery that would fall on a Sunday moves to Monday on Brisbane time, and that Monday starts at 10pm on Sunday in Perth.

NAATI translations don’t expire

NAATI’s own FAQ says it in three words: “Translations don’t expire.” Translate once, keep the PDF and use it again while your document stays the same.

This applies to our NAATI option, available on the order page. A renewed or reissued document needs a new translation, and each office sets its own requirements; tell us who it is for and we’ll check what they ask for. Do NAATI translations expire?
