Romanian to English
Romanian to English translation
For visitors driving on a Romanian licence, and for anyone who needs a Romanian or Moldovan certificate, extract or diploma in English. Translated in full, delivered by email, with NAATI certification as an option.
What a Romanian document needs
Three things a Romanian document brings with it
Romanian records come in several forms, and a document from Moldova can arrive in either of two alphabets.
Multilingual extracts, and where they count
Romania joined the 1976 Vienna Convention in 2012, and civil status offices issue multilingual extracts of birth, marriage and death records. They are recognised without translation in the Convention’s member states. Australia is not one, so ask the office reading yours whether it will do.

Ș, Ț and the CNP
Romanian names carry ă, â, î, ș and ț, and the translation spells yours as your passport does. The 13-digit CNP, the personal numeric code that begins with a digit for sex and century of birth, is copied digit for digit. Older typed documents often print ş and ţ with a cedilla rather than a comma; they are the same letters, and the translation treats a name written either way as one name.
Documents from Moldova
Moldovan records are in Romanian, but older ones may use the Cyrillic alphabet, or Russian. We translate what the page shows. A document wholly in Russian is best ordered as Russian to English, and for a page that mixes the two, ask us first and we will confirm before you pay.

What to carry with a Romanian licence
What Queensland says
“If you’re visiting Queensland, you can drive if you have a valid interstate or overseas licence.” And: “If your licence isn’t in English, you should carry a recognised English translation of it when you’re driving.”
At the SIXT desk
“Should the valid driver’s licence be in another language or have no photo SIXT will accept a certified translation in English or an International driver’s permit.” Carry the card with the translation; neither works alone.

Hiring a car? What the hire desk checks when your licence is not in English walks through the counter, and driver licence translation quotes every state.
What a careful job includes
Every field, every annotation, both sides
The whole permis de conducere
Both sides of the card: your details in the numbered fields, the issuing authority, and each category on the reverse with its dates and codes, set out in English words.
Certificates and their mentions
Birth, marriage and death certificates are translated with every later mention, such as a divorce or a change of name, where the document records it.
Diplomas and records
Diplomas with their supplements, transcripts, criminal record certificates and court decisions. Seals and signatures are marked where they appear; unreadable text is marked in square brackets.
Choose the NAATI certification option for a translation prepared by a NAATI-certified translator, carrying their certification statement, NAATI stamp and credential number. See the birth certificate and marriage certificate pages for those documents.
