What a Serbian document needs

Three things a Serbian document brings with it

Two alphabets, electronic originals and a 13-digit personal number: each changes how a translation is done.

Cyrillic or Latin

Serbia’s constitution puts the Serbian language and Cyrillic script in official use, so many documents are in Cyrillic, while others use Latin letters or both. Whichever yours uses, names are romanised to match your passport, Đorđević and all. Macedonian Cyrillic has letters of its own: see Macedonian to English translation.

An electronic extract and its QR code

A register extract ordered through eUprava can arrive as an electronic document, signed by the registrar and carrying a QR code that checks its authenticity. Serbia’s eGovernment office says a printed copy of it is only a copy, so send us the electronic file itself; the translation carries its reference.

The JMBG and the international form

The 13-digit JMBG, your unique personal number, is copied digit for digit, and a month written as a Roman numeral (12. IV 2010) is written out in words. Extracts can also be issued on the international multilingual form of the 1976 Vienna Convention; if yours reads in English where it matters, see documents already in English.

Driving here on a Serbian licence

What to carry with a Serbian licence

What VicRoads says

“If your licence is not in English, you’ll also need to carry either: an English translation of your licence, or an international driving permit in English.” The translation goes with the card; it never replaces it.

At the Hertz desk

Hertz’s terms accept a licence that “is in English or, if not in English, is accompanied by a certified English translation”. They do not define certified; of our two options, only the NAATI option carries a certification statement and stamp.

What a careful job includes

Every field, every register entry

The whole licence

Both sides of the card: name, date and place of birth, issue and expiry dates, the issuing police administration, the licence number, and each category with its dates and codes, set out in English.

Register extracts and certificates

Birth, marriage and death extracts, citizenship certificates and criminal record certificates, paper or electronic, with the registrar’s details, the register entry and every later note.

Diplomas and court records

Diplomas with their supplements, transcripts and court decisions. Seals and signatures are marked where they appear, and text that cannot be read in the photo is marked in square brackets.

Choose the NAATI certification option for a translation prepared by a NAATI-certified translator, carrying their certification statement, NAATI stamp and credential number. See the birth certificate and marriage certificate pages for those documents.

Pricing

The full price on screen before you order

Translation is $39.99 per page into English, delivered digitally. Add NAATI certification for $59.99 per page, prepared by a NAATI-certified translator and carrying their certification statement, NAATI stamp and credential number. Where the translator uses NAATI’s digital stamp, it carries a QR code you can scan to check the credential.
